A landmark collective bargaining agreement ratified in Western Canada has mandated the use of Arc-Rated (AR) and High-Visibility (HV) combined garments for all mining and heavy construction personnel. This agreement covers over 50,000 workers across British Columbia and Alberta.
The requirement for "HV/FR" dual-hazard protection is now being adopted as a best practice by major mining operators in Australia and South Africa.
The sudden volume of orders has strained the supply of specific background colors (specifically Orange and Lime) that meet the ASTM F1506 standard. Global sourcing teams are prioritizing vendors with stock programs for modacrylic blended fabrics, which offer inherent FR properties superior to treated cotton for this specific application.
Exporters should note that the new standards require specific reflective tape placements that do not interfere with the garment's arc flash rating. This technical nuance is critical for passing QA inspections upon arrival in North American ports.
